About the Event

Workshop’s program

This three-day workshop will help you establish a deep connection between the nature of watercolour and the nature of the Sea, guiding you to express the full power and beauty of water on paper.

This course is designed for anyone who has always dreamed of learning to paint the Sea with watercolours or who wants to improve their skills in this medium within the genre of seascapes. Over the three days, you’ll gain hands-on experience capturing the diverse moods of the Sea, from the tranquil surface to the rocky depths and crashing waves.

  • Day 1, February 7: Painting the Surface of the Sea

On our first day, we’ll dive into the art of painting the Sea’s surface, focusing on techniques to create reflections, ripples, and the play of light across moving water.

You’ll learn how to balance colours, control gradients, and convey the illusion of depth and movement in still water. This day is perfect for anyone looking to master the subtleties of calm seas and reflective surfaces.

  • Day 2, February 8: Capturing Underwater Rocks and Depth

The second day will lead us below the surface, focusing on painting rocks and textures that lie beneath the water. Through layering techniques, you’ll learn how to capture the transparency of water and the soft shadows of underwater landscapes.

We’ll explore how colours change with depth and how to use watercolour’s unique qualities to depict submerged details like rocks, sand, and plant life, creating a sense of depth and clarity.

  • Day 3, February 9: Depicting Crashing Waves and Dynamic Seascapes

On the final day, we’ll take on the challenge of painting powerful, crashing waves. You’ll learn techniques to convey the force and energy of waves breaking against the shore, from capturing the texture of foam to depicting spray and splashes. We’ll focus on blending bold, expressive strokes with delicate details to achieve a realistic portrayal of turbulent water, highlighting the dramatic beauty of the Sea in motion.
